Web Tech - Wordpress Security: Do Not Panic!

A half and year educated us that WordPress security should not be taken lightly by any means. Between 15% and 20% of the world's high traffic websites are powered by WordPress. The fact that it is an Open Source platform and everyone has access to its Source Code makes it a tempting prey for hackers.

If you don't have good protection on your site Documents can easily get lost. Some of those files might be stored on your computer and easily replaceable, but what about the rest of them? Where are you going to get them out of again, if you lose the first time to them? Especially clean hacked wordpress site is very important. Long-term sites have created a number of documents and have a lot of data. Recreating all of that are a nightmare, and not something any business owner would like to do.

The one I recommend, and the approach, is to use one of the password creation and storage plugins available for your browser. I think after a trial period, you have redirected here to pay for it, although RoboForm is liked by Lots of people. I use the free version of Lastpass, and I recommend it for those of you who use Firefox or Internet Explorer. That will generate secure passwords for you; you then use one master password to log in.

You should also set the"Anyone Can Register" in Settings/General to off, and you should have some sort of spam plugin. Akismet is the old standby, the one I use, but there are many of them these days.

As I (our untrue Joe the Hacker) understand, people have far too many usernames and passwords to remember. You've got Twitter, Facebook, your online banking, LinkedIn, two blog logins, FTP, internet hosting, etc. accounts which all include logins and passwords you need to remember.

But realize that online security is something that you really need to start thinking about. Do not only be the type, take steps to begin protecting yourself today. Do not let Joe the Hacker make your life miserable and turn all that you've worked hard.
